Remember though, when you are dating a co-worker it can be really hard if you two break up!

1. DON’T VIOLATE COMPANY POLICY
When you go about dating a co-worker, you want to make sure that you are not going to be putting your career in jeopardy by violating company policies. If you are dating a co-worker and violating the company polices, make sure that it is worth it. Is this person the ‘one’ for you? Do you have an instant connection? Is he marriage material? Below, we’ll explore some ways that you can keep your relationship discreet so maybe, nobody will know you are dating!

2. KEEP IT DISCREET
Above I mentioned that you don’t want to violate a company policy; however, if you have a really strong feeling about someone, there are ways that you can keep your relationship a secret. Make sure that you don’t provide favoritism. Also make sure that you aren’t constantly swinging by your new boyfriend’s desk that could tip people off that you are dating!

3. DON’T DATE YOUR SUBORDINATE
While we all want to life like Sandra Bullock in The Proposal, it’s really not a great idea to date your subordinate. The reasoning behind this is because it could be the one thing that breaks you up. Ladies, if you are going to go about dating your co-worker, make sure it isn’t someone that is under you!

4. DATE SOMEONE IN A DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT
In my office, we actually a bunch of different ‘pods’ is what we call them. These are in essence, different departments. Trust me; it’s much easier to date a co-worker when they aren’t in the same department as you!

5. AVOID PDAS
Whenever you are dating a co-worker, make sure that you are avoiding any and all PDAs, especially around the office. This can actually put your career at risk and can actually cause a lot of tension within the office. If you’re going to date someone that you work with, save the PDAs until you are out of the office.

6. DON’T FIGHT AT WORK
This goes hand-in-hand with the PDAs rule. When you are fighting with your spouse, remember – don’t take it out at him at work! When you are at work, you want to leave all of your personal business behind and make sure that you are professional and civil at work.

7. HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY
Finally, if you are dating a co-worker, make sure that you have some kind of exit strategy. What this means is that if you do happen to break up, what are you going to do? How are you going to handle it? Be prepared!

Dating a co-worker is hard stuff, but you really can’t control who you are attracted to. So ladies, have you ever considered dating a co-worker? Have any stories for us?
